How to read it

  1. Every letter was moved FORWARD by an amount.
  2. To read it, move every letter BACK by that same amount.
  3. When you run off the front of the alphabet, wrap round to Z.

Worked example

With a shift of 11, the sender turned A into the letter 11 places further along the alphabet. Going back the other way is how you read it. Count carefully — and remember A comes after Z when you run off the end.
